POSITION TITLE: Prepress Technician
QUALIFICATIONS:
· A post-secondary school education with 2-3 years prepress industry experience.
· Proficiency with Mac/PC environments and various graphic software programs, including; QuarkXpress, Photoshop, Illustrator, Suitcase, FlightCheck, Prinergy, PitStop, Adobe Acrobat, Preps, Creo and VPS.
· Flexible with strong troubleshooting capabilities.
· Excellent time-management and organizational abilities.
· Effective oral and written communication skills.
· Attention to detail and able to function well in a deadline-driven work environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Conduct in depth file check, including:
o Resolve issues from flightcheck report, clean up any conflicting fonts, confirm that trim size corresponds with docket.
o Confirm file is set up properly for process or spot colours within application and imported images, based on docket information.
o Remove all Photoshop profiles and transfer functions and update all modified images.
o Fill non-TIF boxes with white and confirm the need for clipping paths.
o Check bleed and add when necessary; ensure elements are clear from the trim.
o Troubleshoot problems, such as corrupt fonts, images or trapping.
o Report any unresolved issues, such as missing fonts, low-res images, conflicting file or docket information.
o Write Postcript file.
o Set up job in Prinergy.
o Import PS or PDF files.
o Refine files and trap accordingly.
o Open file in Acrobat, check trapping and separations are correct; spot colours and black overrprints.
· Perform output and proofing, including:
o Impose job according to docket information or supplied imposition.
o Confirm impositions match stock size supplied, trim size of files, number of pages in file and press process.
o Preview imposed job in VPS to check traps, bleeds, trim, crops, imposition marks and gutters.
o Impose similar job colours together to maintain consistency on press and prevent ghosting; ensure enough gripper for die cuts.
o Output reduced plate proofs and make folded dummy for verification against mockups.
o Output second set of reduced plate proofs for plate maker and pressman confirmation.
o Output plates following confirmation.
o Report any potential problems or issues at shift end and provide suggestions for resolution.

POSITION TITLE: Pressperson
QUALIFICATIONS:
§ Related print industry experience. Current presses: Heidelberg SM 102 – 10 colour perfector; Komori 6 Color 28 Lithrone with Coating
§ Attention to detail with strong time-management skills.
§ Able to function well in a deadline-driven work environment.
§ Proactive with strong troubleshooting capabilities.
§ Flexible and performs well within a teamwork setting.
§ Effective communication skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
§ Read docket thoroughly.
§ Confirm that ruling-up, folding and finished trim are complete on every job before proceeding to run.
§ Sign and indicate accurate count on all dockets and log books.
§ Ensure tags on printed jobs clearly indicate the problem.
§ Label side-lay and grip on completed jobs clearly.
§ Instruct feeder on next job running to prepare stock.
§ Maintain up-to-date press and maintenance books.
§ Inventory control associated supplies (ink, chemistry etc.,).
§ Clean press for next shift.
§ Ensure adequate boards for next shift, pile if necessary.
§ Maintain a clean, safe work area to prevent accident and/or injury.
§ Comply with health and safety regulations and ensure that supplied uniforms and safety shoes are worn during work hours.

POSITION TITLE: Folder / Stitcher Operator
QUALIFICATIONS:
§ A secondary school education with related print industry experience.
§ Attention to detail with strong time-management skills.
§ Able to function well in a deadline-driven work environment.
§ Proactive with strong troubleshooting capabilities.
§ Flexible and performs well within a teamwork setting.
§ Effective communication skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
§ Set up operation of machine.
§ Assign workload to personnel.
§ Troubleshoot and perform general repairs on machines.
§ Perform routine maintenance of machine.
§ Order parts for machines, when necessary.
§ Train personnel on machine operation, when required.
§ Monitor work to ensure quality products.
§ Assign tasks for assistants, when machine down (i.e., make label boxes, clean work area).
§ Follow packaging and shipping instructions.
§ Maintain a clean, safe work area to prevent accident and/or injury.
§ Comply with health and safety regulations and ensure that supplied uniforms and safety shoes are worn during work hours.
